Mile for Mac

"My son Mac was born on Jan. 26, 1994 and went to be with our Lord and Savior on Nov. 12, 2009. Mac was a sophomore at Faith Academy here in Mobile. He loved baseball and played for Faith for several years. This year he decided he did not want to play baseball he wanted to study and become valedictorian of his senior class. He began running several months ago and fell in love with it. He enjoyed the challenge of training for a marathon. He loved his family, his friends, and his God. He has finished his race and I have never been more proud of him."

A young Mobilian, Mark Anthony Chatom (Mac), died while training for the FLM Half Marathon. To honor his memory, a special 26 member relay team has been formed. Each member of the Team for Mac will run 1 mile of the marathon course for Mac. In addition, the Chatom family has establish a scholarship in Mac's name at Faith Academy. The First Light Marathon will donate $2 to the scholarship fund for each person who registers for the Marathon, Half Marathon, Relay, or 1.2 mile run and fills in "Mile for Mac" in the School Name section of the race application. Mile for Mac participants may order a special shirt honoring Mac for an additional $5.
